Dr. Annemarie Paulin-Campbell and Susan Rakoczy, IHM, PhD, share thoughts about spiritual direction in Africa and the universal appeal of Thomas Merton.

  1. How has storytelling and exercising your imagination changed your relationship with God?
  2. What does the phrase “growing in self” mean to you?
  3. In what ways has spiritual conversation in a less structured setting helped in your journey? How has a less structured setting helped the seekers you companion?

Dr. Annemarie Renée Paulin-Campbell is head of the School of Spirituality of the Jesuit Institute-South Africa where she has trained and supervised spiritual directors ecumenically for fifteen years.

Susan Rakoczy, IHM, PhD, is professor of Christian spirituality and systematic theology at St. Joseph’s Theological Institute and the School of Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
